From cleaning out your garage and decluttering your pantry to wiping down all the dusty surfaces in your home, you may have some big plans for spring cleaning. If so, don’t forget to spring clean your dental routine as well. After all, there is a good chance one of the dirtiest items in your home is your toothbrush holder! If you’re unsure where to start, then keep reading.

1. Declutter and Organize Your Oral Hygiene Products

Do you have extra toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, and other oral hygiene products under your bathroom sink or in your medicine cabinet? Now is the perfect time to wipe down the shelves, throw out any expired products, and organize what remains. If you really want to go the extra mile, you can get nice storage bins that have all of the different sections labeled as well!

2. Wipe Down Your Bathroom Counter

You might wipe down your bathroom counter on a weekly basis. But during your spring cleaning, you should really focus on cleaning all of the areas that you may normally miss, like the sides of your sink, the edges of your bathroom mirror, the fronts of your cabinet, and the grout surrounding your counter.

3. Clean Your Toothbrush Holder

As previously mentioned, there is a good chance your toothbrush holder is one of the dirtiest items in your house. So, give it a deep clean! Depending on the material, you may just need some soap and water. Otherwise, you can always get a new one to start fresh.

4. Replace Your Toothbrush (or Toothbrush Head)

Be honest… when was the last time you replaced your toothbrush? If it’s been more than three or four months, then it’s time to get a new one. For patients with manual toothbrushes, this may be the perfect opportunity to upgrade to an electric one! In addition to providing a deeper clean, they offer replacement bristles which help reduce plastic waste.

5. Visit Your Dentist for a Checkup and Cleaning

Naturally, the tools your dentist has at their office are far superior to the ones you have at home. For that reason, it’s important to get a dental checkup and cleaning every six months! By removing built-up plaque and tartar and cleaning the areas of your mouth that may get missed on a daily basis, you’ll leave the office with a fresh, bright, beautiful, and clean smile.
