If you are tired of looking at your less-than-perfect smile, then you might be excited about fixing it up with cosmetic dentistry. Before you can dive into the treatments your dentist offers, you will need a consultation first. This is a great time for your provider to learn about your unique goals and let you know what you can do to get there. However, it’s an even better opportunity for you to learn as much as you can! To help get you prepared, here are three questions you can ask.

1.)  What Should I Expect with Cosmetic Dentistry?

You should be sure to ask about what cosmetic dentistry can do. Treatments like veneers and dental bonding are designed to get rid of aesthetic flaws that bother you. In fact, they are very effective at helping make your teeth look the best they can! However, they don’t fare well against severe damage or missing teeth.

For these types, you will need to look at restorative options. Crowns and dental implants may not necessarily be a “cosmetic” service, but dentists take their appearance into account. They are made with high-quality materials that look natural and lifelike in the end.

2.)  How Long Until I Get My Results?

It’s normal to be a bit impatient about getting the smile you love. You may be excited about it, but when you’ll get your results largely depends on the treatment you choose. Once you are able to narrow down what options you have to fix your dental flaws, ask about the timeline for each one. This can help you make a decision. For instance, veneers can take two appointments, a couple of weeks apart, while cosmetic bonding can be done within an hour.

Afterward, you can then ask about how long your results will last. Some have a greater longevity than others, but you can get further advice on what’s right for you.

3.)  Will It Hurt to Get My Treatments?

With any sort of procedure, you might be a bit worried about pain. Thankfully, your dentist works to make you as comfortable as possible. Some treatments, like bonding, don’t usually need any anesthesia because of how easy they are. While others may, your mouth will be numbed during them, so you shouldn’t feel severe discomfort.

Any questions you can think of are good to write down. Building your list can help you feel confident that you are making the right decision for your oral health. That way, you leave the consultation knowing what you can do to get the aesthetic smile you want.
